The difference between the CR-V and the HR-V: which one to choose?
Both the Honda CR-V and the Honda HR-V are impressive for the level of safety they offer. However, there are many features that set them apart. When it comes to performance, practicality and technology, which model is best suited to your needs?
What about performance?
The Honda HR-V is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers a maximum output of 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque. This type of engine is integrated into all versions of the Honda HR-V. This vehicle also features an eight-speed continuously variable transmission. The Honda CR-V gasoline engine is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. It produces 190 hp and 179 lb-ft of torque. This vehicle is also available as a hybrid, using a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle mill. This delivers up to 204 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque. In this context, the Honda CR-V is more advantageous in terms of performance.
Which is the most practical model?
When it comes to practicality, the Honda CR-V also outshines the Honda HR-V. The Honda HR-V offers great maneuverability. This is thanks to its turning circle of 10.8 meters, compared with the CR-V's 12.0 meters. However, the Honda CR-V is a compact SUV, and therefore has larger dimensions. It offers 1,113 liters of trunk space, which can be increased to 2,166 liters with the seats folded down. The Honda HR-V, on the other hand, offers just 691 liters of trunk space, or 1,559 liters with the seats folded down. The Honda HR-V is not designed for towing. The Honda CR-V has a towing capacity of 453 kg for the hybrid model and 680 kg for the petrol model.
What about safety and technology?
Safety systems are similar for the Honda CR-V and Honda HR-V. Both models feature the same driver assistance technologies. They offer access to adaptive cruise control and a blind spot monitoring system. These vehicles are also lane-keeping compatible and feature rear cross-traffic alert. They also include an automatic emergency braking system and a collision notification system. Technology and infotainment systems are similar for both models. Both models are equipped with a seven- or nine-inch screen, depending on the version. The latter is compatible with CarPlay and Android Auto and features several USB ports. They are also equipped with four, six or eight speakers. The Honda CR-V, however, offers more options, including a twelve-speaker Bose audio system and modem-powered Wi-Fi connectivity.
